My name is Giles, and I am the head coach of Ronin Grappling in Glasgow, Scotland - I have been practicing BJJ since 2007, and have had the privilege of teaching at BJJ Globetrotter camps since 2020.
I take a methodical and analytical approach to BJJ, drawing heavily on my background in Computer Science and my career in the IT industry - my primary goal is to provide students with clear & easily followed technical tuition, illustrating critical grappling concepts and keeping up to date with the latest developments in high level tournaments.
I take in anywhere between 8 - 15 hours of Jiu Jitsu content from sources such as match footage from services like FloGrappling/UFC FightPass, video portals (Grappler's Guide, SubMeta) and Podcasts (BJJ Mental Models, The Chewjitsu Podcast) - this is all on top of my own teaching and training, and the various training camps I attend/teach at.
Long story short, I do the legwork and come up with content that is current, easily digested, and hopefully not dull as dishwater!

Open Guard Retention & Attacks - Butterfly 1/2 Guard - Entry to the Legs
3m 6s
In this video, we explore an entry into leg attacks from the butterfly half guard position. We'll look at how to roll underneath an opponent who is coming forward, using the butterfly hook to set up various leg attack positions. Important considerations for IBJJF rules are highlighted, noting the risk of disqualification for reaping. The technique involves transitioning from a pseudo dog fight position and maintaining control to prevent the opponent from turning in. This method provides a strategic approach for effective sweeps and leg attacks.
